The importance of controlling friction, wear and lubrication in modern
high technology products has been recognized world-widely. Economic as
well as reliability and security aspects give tribology a key position
in technical development in many fields. As well known, since the requirements
for machines and equipment have become more and more strict, the discipline
of tribology will be further brought to forefront. The present proceedings
contains 176 papers selected from a total of 190 contributions written
by specialists working in the area, and some of the papers re of high
academic level.
