The present volume deals with a faunal work of living fishes of four Orders (Tetraodontiformes, Pegasiformes, Gobiesociformes and Lophiiformes) collected from the Chinese water.
Each Order is divided into two parts: a comprehensive survey and a systematic description. IN comprehensive survey part, the definition characters, taxonomic historical review, systematics, biological characteristics, geographical distribution and importance of this Order are given. In systematic description part, the detailed account of morphological feature, biological characterstics, geographical distribution and economic uses of families, genera and species are describeded, taxonomic problem of some species are also briefly reviewed and discussed. The keys to all taxonomic categories are given and have been translated into English in this volume.
In Tetraodontiformes, a total of 131 species are described, belonging to 61 genera in 10 families, 6 superfamilies and 2 suborders, of these 1 genus and 2 species are new to science.
In Pegasiformes, a total of 3 species are described, belonging to 2 genera in 1 family
In Gobiesociformes, a total of 6 species are described, belonging to 6 genera in 1 family
In Lophiiformes, a total of 37 species are described, belonging to 21 genera in 11 families and 3 suborders.
