本书撰著者历时5载，行程数万千米，走遍三江源区，采集植物标本万余份，通过系统地分类鉴定，并运用数字扫描技术将其转换成数字影像。本书共收集了三江源区特别是高寒草旬区的主要植物1091种，隶属于73科、331属。
