Plants of China is a introductory volume of Flora of China, summarizing in an accessible way the state of knowledge of plants of China considered in many dimensions. It has been written mostly by Chinese authors, all of whom are leaders in their fields. Plants of China covers plant ecology, plant geography, plant diversity and conservation, the uses of plants, and many other important features of Chinese plants. Much of the information in the volume has not previously been published outside China, and it has certainly never been brought together in theis way. Thus, Plants of China brings knowledge of Chinese plants to a wider international audience than ever before and provides a gateway to the wider literature on this fascinating and valuable array of organisms.
The authors Hong De-Yuan from Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Stephen blackmore from Royal Botanical garden Edinburgh, UK. The book is published by Science Press in Beijing, China, the 1st edition, text language in English. The book is in stock and will be sent in two or three days.
When the Flora of China was first conceived in 1979 and formally agreed upon in 1988, it was always intended that there would be an introductory volume providing an overview, not only of the Flora of China, but also of the plants of China generally. Plants of China is not a formal part of the Flora, but summarises in an accessible way the state of knowledge of the plants of China considered in many dimensions. It will be useful as a guide to China's plants from the various points of view summarized in its chapters. In contrast to the floristic volumes, which have been co-authored jointly by Chinese and non-Chinese scientists, plants of China has been written in the main by Chinese authors, all of whom are leaders in their fields. It covers ecology, plant geography, the uses of plants, and many other important features of the nation's plants that could not be treated in detail in the Flora. Much of the information in the volume has not previously been published outside China, and it has certainly never been brought together in this way. Thus, Plants of China brings knowledge of Chinese plants to a wider international audience than ever before and provides a gateway to the wider literature on this fascinating and valuable array of organisms. - from Foreword of the book
