The symposium was held in Yangyuan County,Hebei Province,China on 2011.8.14~21. The Nihewan Basin is a holy place for paleoanthropological and paleolithic archaeological research in China and East Asia. A series of paleolithic sites have been discovered in the basin which reveals the earliest human footprints in Northeast Asia and a chain of human evolution in the region. 
内容涉及古人类学、旧石器时代考古学、古脊椎动物学、古环境学、第四纪地质学、年代学等多个研究领域，国内外古人类学者深入到马圈沟、小长梁、侯家窑、虎头梁遗址以及下沙沟剖面、麻地沟发掘现场进行了考察。
