We are extremely pleased to contribute this series of two books Advanced Microbiology and Microbial Research Techniques to the Laboratory of Microbiology, Cooperative Project in Higher Education Between China and Cameroon, which is performed from 1991 to 1999.

Microbiology is one of the most important life sciences which are the leading one in the 21st Century without doubt. Microbiology is one of the sciences developing with the fastest speed and increasingly affecting other sciences and human beings in the world today. Microorganisms play an important and non-substitutable role in biogeochemical cycles of carbon, nitrogen, sulfur and other elements, and possess the double functions of environmental pollutant and cleaner, both of which influence the environmental quality of the globe, on which human beings live, and the persistent development of the world. Microorganisms also involve in many kinds of fermentation for production of foods, organic acids, ethanol, amino acids, vitamins, medicines, etc. relatively close to human's daily life. It is impossible the higher quality of life of human beings will be persistently increased without action of microorganisms.
