The book has five chapters: In the first chapter, the origin and distribution of safflower in the world as well as in China are described. The second chapter presents the biological characteristics of safflower on the basis of experiments in China and elsewhere, as found in the related references. A chapter on collection and conservation of safflower fives an idea of sampling strategy and current status of safflower germplasm in China.

The fourth chapter describes agronomic characters, yield components, resistance to biotic and abiotic stresses and quality characters of safflower, derived from the results of characterization and seed evaluation experiments carried out in china. The last chapter presents the elite germplasm of safflower and a catalogue of world safflower collection with descriptors and descriptor states.
This book will server as a useful tool for the better understanding and effective conservation and use of safflower genetic resources.
