Mesozoic and Cenozoic Insects from Northern China,The Authors and their team focus on the Mesozoic-Cenozoic insects and have made some progress in insect taxonomy, evolution, plaeoecology, biostratigraphy nd taphonomy, which have been mostly published in scientific journals in English. In this book, some studies on the Mesozoic-Cenozoic insects from Northern China are systemized and introduced to Chinese readers for the first time.

The book is composed of 8 parts. In order for most readers to easily understand this book, the classification, geological history and types of fossil preservation of insects are briefed in the Introduction. The important Mesozoic and Cenozoic insect faunas and assemblages in Northern China are shown in Chapter 1 The team and their cooperators have described many new taxa and some new combinations based on the Mesozoic and Cenozoic insects from China as well as a few based on the foreign mateial. These fossils are compiled and listed in Chapter 2. For interpretation of the geological applications of fossil insects, some research examples concerning the insect biostratigraphy, palaeoecology, biopalaeogeography and the palaeo-atmospheric oxygen level are given in Chapter 3. The evolution of many insect groups has been studied by the team, and some important taxa including Prophalangopsidae (Orthoptera), Cicadomorpha and Coleorrhyncha (Hemiptera), and Coptoclavidae (Coleoptera) are discussed in Chapter 4. Additionally, the evolution of insect diversity in the Jehol Biota is also given in this chapter. The relationship between insects and other creatures in the Mesozoic has been studied and some results are shown in Chapter 5. Some important progress recently made in insect taphonomy in China is introduced in Chapter 6. At the end of the book, the considerable progress made in palaeoentomology in China has been summarized, and the further research and development trends in this field are outlined in the Achievements and Prospect.
