The swallowtail butterflies (family Papilionidae) belongs to superfamily Paplionoidea. The present work deals with 21 genera and 132 species, 287 subspecies in 3 subfamilies of swallowtail butterflies from China. It contains two parts:I. General Account 1. In the Systematic Account, besides the adult morphology descriptions of every species, the morphology descriptions of eggs, larvae and pupae are included as possible as known. The keys to families of butterflies, to subfamilies of Papilionidae, to tribes and genera, and to the species of each genus respectively based on external characters and male genitalia are provided.The geographical distribution, and if available, the biology, foodplants and habits have been listed in the text. The original description and if have had, the synonyms and the nominal transitions of each taxon have been cited. The male and female genitalia of most species, the venations of genera, some larvae and pupae, and other external characters have been illustrated. The colour photos of some adults are given in the colour plates. Some cladograms are quoted in chapters2, 9 and the systematic account
