Introduction: This book is the generalization and summarization of the achievements of forest insect research in China from 1949 to 1990. It consists of two parts. The first part includes the general situations of research; the development and behavior; the classification; the relationships between forest insects and their environments; the community; the population dynamics and forecast; the principles and methods of forest insect pest control; the integrated pest management. In the second part, 824 species belonging to 141 families of 13 orders are described in order of their distribution, hosts, morphological and biological characteristics, and arranged on the basis of the system of insect classification. The pest control methods or the protection and utilization of natural enemies are shown at the end of the families or genera concerned, which keep both the universe and individual characteristics.
