China is one of the countries having many deer species. Only living in Qinghai-Xizang plateau, the white-lipped deer is a unique deer species of China and is the sole species having the highest distribution. The white- lipped deer was regarded as the descendant of black deer and is a special branch on evolution. It is very important to research on the origin, evolution, taxonomy, and biology of white-lipped deer not only for understanding why it can survive and develop at the plateau,but also for the research on the systematic taxonomy and zoogeographic feature of the entire deer animal. This book collects the research materials on the white-lipped deer during the past 100 years, which includes the materials on the origin, evolution, taxonomy, distribution, biology, population behavior, anatomy, husbandry and conservation management, from discovery to deep research of white-lipped deer. The purpose of the book is to provide comprehensive reference to the animal researchers, managers, and deer keepers and improve the research and conservation of white-lipped deer.
