There is only one family(Cricetidae) in this volume. It deals with four subfamilies:Cricetinae, Myospalainae, Gerbillinae and Microtinae. It includes all mammals belonging to Cricetidae(Rodents), which have heretofore been recorded from China, comprising altogether 18 genera, 72 species, with 123 subspecies. As shown in the following table (Table 1). With regard to the zoogeographical aspect, the distribution of all the species of the four subfamilies in the China may be listed below(Tabe 2). This volume also includes the 5 new subspecies, all belonging Eothemomys. They are Eothenomys olitor hypolitor Wang, subsp. nov. ; Eothenomys custos ninglangensis Wang & Li, subsp. nov.; Eothenomys custos changshanensis want & Yang, subsp. nov.; Eothenomys eleusis yingjingensis Wang & Li, subsp. nov.; Eothenomys melanogaster Wang & Li, subsp. nov. From the above list, it is clearly shown that the Cricetidae treated in this volume are mainly distributed in the Palaearctic Realm.
