This book summarizes the author's life work in studying the genetic resources and sustainable development of fisheries in the Yangtze River. It is boased on fish biodiversity, and focuses particularly on genetic diversity of important and endangered economic species such as silver carp, bighead carp, grass carp, black carp, blunt snout bream and Chinese sturgeons. It considers biodiversity from four aspects-the population, individual, cell and molecular levels, and three fisheries perspectives-the fisheries biology, population geneticws and conservation biology. This book examines the past and current status of important fish species, and discuses the in-situ and ex-situ conservation, as well as exploitation and other problems.
