The 7th volume is one of 14volumes of Fauna sinica-Aves, which deals with five orders (Caprimulgiformes, Apodiformes, Trogoniformes, Coraciiformes and Piciformes), 13 families, 37 genus and 85 species with 85 subspecies in addition. The birds involved excepting those of Apodifomes being passers are all of scansores. In this volume one subspecies is treated as a new one (Aceros nipalensis yunanensis). From th eanalysis on the avifaunal characteristics, all the species of these birds are those with Oriental affinity (with 36 ones being those with wide ranges in their distributions), excepting one species being of Palearctic one. For each of the species involved in this volume, the topics of geographical distribution (emphasized in China), distinctive characteristics for identification (including both adult male and female), discussion of taxonomic problems (especially in those about differentiation of subspecies), ecological notes and economic significance are treated. The keys to each category under each order are also listed.
