Fauna Sinica —Aves consists of fourteen volumes, and this is the last volume. It includes 19 species of Ploceidae, 86 species of Fringillidae hitherto recorded in our country. For each family and genus there is a general account of geographical distribution and morphological characteristics. For each of the species included in each family, the following topics are treated:
1. Scientific nomenclature, with vernacular and alternative names in Chinese
2. Geographical distribution
3. Identification characteristics
4. Discussion of taxonomic problems
5. Differentiation of subspecies
6. Economic significance
7. Economic significance
The volume also includes 26 illustration, 89 distribution maps, 8 plates of color paintings. It may be used as reference for teachers and workers of zoology as well as those of agriculture, forestry and animal husbandry.
