    Yuanmou is famous for the discovery of Homo erectus yuanmouensis which have a geotime of 1.7Ma BP.In cause of this,lots of scientists are fond of Yuanmou basin and many times reconnaissance and comprehensive study had been excuted that made Yuanmou became one of standard districts for study of the strata Loower Pleistocene in South China.
    Yuanmou Hominoids was first discovered in October 5-1986 from strata of upper Pliocene in a small valley of north margin of the basin.the location named as Zhupeng-Xiaohe area.This discovery at once absorbed the attention from domestic and abroad.From then on about five years,on the financially supports of related aspects,four times excavation of large-scale had been made and get one piece of skull,eight pieces of upper jaw,seven pieces of lower jaw and 1027 teeth.Such a lot of new materials made Yuanmou became an important area for study of the humen-origin and get the attentions from the academic circle of the world.
     The location of the Yuanmou Plicene Hominoids is the third occurence of Hominoid fossils followed discovery of Lufengpithecus Kaiyuanensis and Lufengpithecus lufenginesis.It is also the newest occurrence location of Hominoid in Yunnan Province.It must be an important contribution for the human-origin study which is a long academic subject had not be solved, The best way for it may be international cooperation of multidisciplinary.
