The present book is an attempt to giv a comprehensive description of the development of entomology in modern China.
Though abundant knowledge about utilization of beneficial insects and control of pest insects had been gained in ancient times, entomology as a branch of modern biology was not introduced into China until late 19th century. Generally speaking, the history of entomology in modern China can be divided into six periods:
1.the period of germination (late-19th century-1911)
2.the founding of modern entomology (1911-1937)
3.the war time period for entomological development (1937-1949)
4.the first booming time for entomology (1949-1966)
5.the hard time for the entomology (1966-1978)
6.the second booming time for entomology (1978-2000)
