Foreword
on the translation of ‘Fossil plants and spores: modern techniques’ into Chinese
We were delighted when contacted by Professor Wang Yi requesting permission to translate our book into Chinese. There were two main reasons that made us happy to have the book translated. We are aware that China has many eminent academics working in the fields of palaeobotany and palynology，and we are pleased that this work will be available to them in Chinese to further their studies. There are many strong research collaborations between Chinese researchers and palaeontologists Worldwide，and given the great potential of the Chinese fossil deposits， these collaborations can only grow and strengthen. Secondly， the book represents to us a considerable amount of work and time on the part of our contributors and ourselves， and having it so valued as being worth translating into Chinese can only be taken as a very kind compliment by Professor Wang and his colleagues. On that note，we also appreciate that the translation of such a specialist book was a considerable undertaking， which we understand involved the efforts of 23 persons. Our thanks for all your hard work and time.
We have both had opportunities to visit China several times in recent years on col-laborative research projects. These visits have not only involoved seeing some of the major cities of China， but on occasion we have journeyed to remote localities， and undertaken fieldwork in distant rural locations. As well as greatly enhancing our research such exchanges have been a major education and a privilege that few non-Chinese ever get to experience. Long may researchers from outside China have the chance to visit， and continue to work with Chinese colleagues.
