  The material dealt with in the present monograph was collected by many stratigraphical parties of this institute, inclusive of the writers, from SW China during the past twenty years, especially in 1970-1972. 260 species and varieties belonging to 34 gnera and subgenera are recognized. Of them one genus and 120 species and varieties are new to science, and many known forms are first recorded in China.
  Based on various sections, mainly on ten more complete ones of Lower Ordovician strata in Sichuan, Guizhou, Eastern Yunnan, Southern Shaanxi, Western Hubei and Northwestern Hunan are established 12 graptolite zones, among which thre are refrred to as Xinchangian and nine as Ningkuoan in age.
