The Muscidae is a world-widely distributed, biologically diversified and greatly economically important family of calyptrate Diptera.
The book is divided into 3 volumes. Present volume I includes the general account for the family as a whole and the systematic account with 7 subfamiles. The part 1 of volume II only containing the genus Phaonia which numerous in China. The part 2 of volume II containing the genera of Phainiinae except genus Phaonia and volume III containing the subfamilies Mydaeinae and Coenosiinae.
Present volume comprises two parts:
I. General account
1. Phylogenetic category and diagnosis of the family
2. Historical view of researches
3. A proposal for classification under the family: A phylogenetic dendrogram is shown on page 21, it is a modification of the Henning-Pont-Skidmore’s System
4. Morphology
5. Biology
6. Zoogeography
7. Economic significance, with special reference to indescticide resistances and toxicology of pesticides for housefly
8. Measures of pest control, especially those of integrated pest management for housefly
9. Rearing methods
II. Systematic account
