This book includes general description of mangrove area, birds of mangrove area in important provinces and autonomous regions of China and some study on ecology of birds in the mangrove area. 445 species of birds are recorded in the mangroves of China, which belong to 20 orders and 72 families (among them 175 in the mangrove area of Hainan, 343 in Guangxi, 256 in Guangdong, 211 in Fujian and 225 in Taiwan). The composition of birds in each province and autonomous region, status of national protected and threatened birds, spatial and temporal distribution of birds, activities of birds and related scientific research are introduced in this monograph.
This monograph introduces many researches conducted from multiple perspectives of the relationship between mangroves special heterogeneity and bird diversity, influences on birds from the growth and decline of mangroves, horizontal gradient of birds diversity in mangroves, impact on mangroves from birds, role of birds in food web in mangroves, bird community in mangrove region and impact of the artificial facilities along the coast on the birds in mangrove area.
