The Sanshui Basin is situated in the southwest ofGuangzhou, guangdong Province. In this basin the Cretaceous and Early Tertiary continental deposits are well-developed and may be divided into 8 formations based on lithological and paleontological characters. Fossil pollen and spores of earch formation are very abundant, and some of them occur in association with Ostracods, Charophytes, Gastropods, Lamellibranchiats and Acritachs. Palynology of the Cretaceous and Early Tertiary strata of the Sanshui Basin should be very useful for relevant stratigraphic division and correlation in South China.
According to the palynological ata, the deposits of the 8 formations reported here range from Aptian to Early Oligocene in age.
This collection includes 165 genera and 398 species, among which 2 genera, 86 species and some combinations are new.
All specimens described in this paper were obtained from 925 samples of many boreholes of th eSanshui Basin because Cretaceous and Lower Tertiary strata rarely outerop in this area.
