成源达主编的《湖南动物志：人体与动物寄生蠕虫》记载了湖南寄生蠕虫中的吸虫纲、绦虫纲、线虫纲及棘头虫纲的9亚纲20目、99科、101亚科，216属、362种，其中新种5个；分为吸虫纲2亚纲，2目37科51亚科，87属154种；绦虫纲2亚纲4目13科7亚科36属55种；线虫纲2亚纲9目38科41亚科78属137种；棘头虫纲3亚纲5目11科2亚科15属16种。人体寄生蠕虫或偶见寄生人体的蠕虫56种，鱼类寄生蠕虫52种。收入寄生蠕虫种类近100个科300余种之多，插图近400幅，还有不少新虫种、新纪录和新宿主，而牛盘尾丝虫等的研究是国内少有的报道。该志还收集了某些虫种在湖南地区的生活发育史及某些蠕虫在湖南爆发流行的控制和防治经验。
