The Lancang-Mekong River is famous as "The Danube of the East". It rises in Qinghai Province of China, and flows through six countries China, Laos, Myanmar, Tailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. Because of the special geographical situation, complex topography and landforms, as well as the diverse climate, this region harbors rich biodiversity. However, as inhabited by various ethnic groups who are economically undeveloped, this region has been drawing worldwide attention from the scientific, economic and political circles.
