This book is a presentation of the results of scientific investigations in the vast areas of the Anyemaqen Mountrains and Qilian Mountains obtained through the joint efforts of the Chinese and W. German scientists in 1981. The team travelled 8000 km from deserts to glaciers in 120 days and secured large amounts of materials and data in the fields of glaciology, cryopedology, climatology, geomorphology, geology, surveying, remote sensing, etc. Some regularities of the natural landscape were revealed, and the trends of glacial variations predicted, showing the increasing of snow cover in recent years. Meanwhile, the boundaries of permafrost were defined and specimens of alpine plants collected. These investigations provide important information for the studies of the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau and the construction of the mountain areas of its northeastern part.
This book is a worthy reference for scientists and technologists in glaciology, cryopedology, water conservancy, meteorology, botany, geomorphology, etc., especially for the readers who are interested in the Qinghai-Xizag Plateau
