The IUTAM Symposium on Impact Dynamics was held in Beijing from October
11 to. 15, 1993. Thirty three invited papers by experts in this field
from twelve countries and regions of the world were presented orally at
plenary sessions. A separate poster session was scheduled during which
thirteen additional papers were posted. The invited papers were grouped
according to the following two headings,
1. Impact Process and Structural Failure,
2. Properties of Materials under Impact Loading.
3. Experimental Techniques and Numerical Analysis.
They covered recent development in dynamic elastoplastic deformation of
structural elements, dynamic buckling, deformation and failure of materials
under various types of dynamic loading including laser irradiation, etc.
Analytical, experimental and numerical results presented at the Symposium
generated considerable interest and a separate session was held during
the Symposium to focus in-depth discussion on problems of mutual interest.
The Proceedings contains the full texts of all the invited papers as well
as the posters in abridged form. This collection of papers is a valuable
addition to the literature on Impact Dynamics with many interesting and
new advances, in addition to being a faithful record of a memorable event
enjoyed by all the participants of the Symposium.
