The long history of Suzhou began 2500 years ago, when the " Great
City of Helu" was founded here while the neighbouring region remained
uncultivated. It is now the best preserved ancient city seated on its
original position.
As a bright star among China's medium-sized cities today, the thriving
Suzhou is one of the most advanced in terms of gross output value of industry
and agriculture.
The city enjoys great reputation of long standing for its gardens, temples
and historical sites, which have formed a solid foundation for tourism,
whereas the rich culture and unsophisticated folklore have added much
meaning to its torism. As the result of sustained rapid development of
torism in the last decade, Suzhou has been on the lists of " Top
Ten Scenic Wonders" , " Best Fourteen Scenic Wonders",
" the Renowned Historical and Cultural Cities" and " the
Major Cities of Environmental Protection" in China.

Gulin is a world-renowned tourist city as well as a cultural city with
a long history.
As early as 2000 years ago, Emperor Qin Shihuang has the Lingqu Canal
built to link the Xiangjiang and Lijiang river, thus making Guilin an
impoportant city in the south connected to the central Plain in the north
and the sea in the south. The long history has produced brilliant culture.
The ruins of prehistoric manking, the large tumuli of Prince Jinjiang
of mIng Dynasty, the prose and poems in praise of the hills and rivers
by poets and other literary figures of past dynasties, the inscriptions
and sculptures in the caves and on cliffs merge with the hills and rivers,
adding great humane splendour.
The scenery of Guilin, which is well-known for the green hills, limpid
water, grotesque caves and fantastic stalacmites and stalagtites, enjoys
the reputation of 'best sight under Heaven', Within an area of ioo kilometers
in circumference, grotesque peaks jut out around the city like forest
with rivers winding through. The primeval forest of Huaping, Longsheng,
the ancient embankment of Xing'an Lingqu Canal built in Qin Dynasty, the
Haiyang gingko wood, the Zijiang, hot springs of Longsheng and Yangshuo
form a large scenic area with Gulin as the centre.
