Tianjin is China's third largest city and one of the 14 coastal cities
further open to abroad. It is an economical and foreign trade centre in
North China and also the important industrial base of China.
The city was built in 1404. To the west of the Bohai Sea and the east
of Yanshan Mountains, Tianjin is 130 kilometres from Beijing and is the
gateway to the ancient capital from the sea. The Xingang in Tianjin is
the largest artificial harbour in North China. As an important international
trading port, it can accommodate 24 ships of over 10000 tons.
Tianjin is also a famous city in history and culture and has been listed
among the 20 biggest cities over the world. There are many ancient cultural
sites and scenic spots for the tourists, such as Tianjin's Cultural Street,
the Food street, th Great Wall in Jixian County, th water park, the Dul
Monastry, th Avalokitervara Monastry, the tourist area on Panshan Mountain,
etc. Tianjin is also a good shopping city for tourists. The department
stores have a good assortments of goods. Their new and original types
and exquisite arts are renowned at home and abroad.
