The book collect all freshwater fishes 202 species and subspecies including 1 new species – gobio Fushun Xie, Li and Xie and 1 new record in China –Mircrophsyogobio yalunesis (Mori), which have been found in Northeastern rivers in china (including Amur River , Liao River, Suifen River , Tumen River, Yala River , Coastal Rivers of Liaoning Provence and landlocked waters in East Nei Monggol) so far. These species and subspecies belong to 16 orders , 40 families, 122 genera. Each species not only has Chinese name and Latin Scientific name, but also has another name and English name. It particularly introduces morphological characters, ecological habit , biology (feeding habits, age and growth, breed and development ,migration and structure of population ect.), geographical distribution, utilization and protection of each species. Besides, the rivers distribution in Northeastern region of china, studies history of freshwater fishes, classificatory system in this book in introduction and faunal compose, distributional feature and zoogeographical divisions of freshwater fishes in Northeastern region of China in zoogeography are also described. Keys to genera and species of each family are given and have been translated into English in this book.
A fish bright-pearl was discovered in ovary of a specimen new species.
