List of Chinese Insects 中国昆虫名录 (4 Volumes set)
In English
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Acoording to the Information Sheet presented in 1988 by the Department
of Entomology of the British Museum (Natural History), "More than
10 million insect species are thought to exist, of which some 900000 are
described, rising at about 7000 per year."
In 1935-1941, the late Dr. Wu, Chenfu F., the founder of modern entomotaxonomy
of China in his famous monumental work-"Catalogus Insectorum Sinensium"
Vol.I-VI has recorded 20069 species of insects in China. How many species
of insects has been recorded in China since then? Not long ago, there
was no answer to this question. The author holds that , today , it is
time to fill up the historical gap. For establishing "Chinese Insect
Residence Booklet", the author started working on the "List
of Chinese Insects" Vol.I-IV in 1986. The records of Chinese species
are mainly compiled for "Zoological Record", "Catalogus
Insectorum Sinensium", "The Economic Insect Fauna of China",
"Fauna of China", "Entomotaxonomia", "Acta Entomologica
Sinica", "Acta Zootaxonomica port on National Condition of Biodiversity
in China" (1998), up to 1995 more than 51000 species of insects were
known to China. While in this "List", the records of Chinese
insects have exceeded 70000 species. The new species included in this
"List" are based on data up to 1990.
The contents of the different volumes are as follows:
