The Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau is the highest, largest and
youngest one on earth well known to all people.
The Mesozoic and Early Cenozoic marine strata are well developed in Xizang,
with very rich scleractinian corals. For a long time little was known
about these corals from Xizang. Since 1951, a large number of scleractinians
have been found from various localities therein. The scleractinian corals
dealt with in this monograph were collected mainly by the comprehensive
Scientific Expedition to the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau of the Chinese Academy
of Sciences. the Geological Institute of Xizang, the 4th Geological Team
of Xizang, the Regional Geological Survey Team of Qinghai and the 3rd
Regional Geological Survey Team of Sichuan.
The fossil scleractinians described here comprise 108 genera and 221 species(including
some new species)
