The Liguanqiao basin is about 600 km2. The small
mammals are found in thin gray carbonaceous mudstones. The Yuanqu basin
is a small intermountane sink in the Zhongtiao range, conrtaining Eocene
sediments more than 1,000 m thick. Since 1986, more than thousand samples
have been collected in the Middle Eocene of the Liguanqiao and Yuanqu
basins, central China, representing 67 taxa of Insectivora, Chiroptera,
primates, Lagomorpha, rodentia and proteutheria. An outline of micromammalian
faunas in the later Eocene of China is included in this report.
