This book contains 6604 species of marine fishes belonging to 328 families
in 41 orders. Each family has a contour sketch. Most of the names of each
given species have certain pragmaticalness and representative. The book
is a professional reference one with eight languages in contrast. The
layout of these languages in series is Latin, Chinese, English, French,
Spanish, German, Russian and Japanese.
The names of the fish species selected in this glossary are in principle,
those widely distributed, commonly found and commercial importance. Among
them, the Latin, Chinese and English denominations ought to be completed,
so as to meet the world demands. The rest of the languages will be served
as much as possible to make them more integrated and completed.
In a number of cases, the principal Latin synonyms (Syn) for a given species
are listed in order to facilitate readers for reference in case of consulting
the literature or the needs in work. At the end of the grossary is the
separate indices for each of eight languages.
