The present volume deals with the Tonnacea (Mollusca: Gastropoda). The
materials for studying were based on the collections from the intertidal
and continental shelf of China Seas by the Institute of Oceanology, Chinese
Academy of Sciences in the past years. 103 species belonging to 20 genera,
15 subgenera in 6 families, namely, Cassidae, Tonnidae, Ficidae, Ranellidae,
Bursidae and Personidae were described. Of the 103 species described in
this volume, only 1 species and 1 subspecies in Cassidae distributed northward
extend to yellow sea and Bohai Sea. There were 24 species distributed
in East China Sea, 63 species in South China Sea, and 98 species in waters
around Taiwan. 88 species described in this volume were reported in Japan
and 81 species in the Philippines. All species of Superfamily tonnacea
reported were the tropical Indo-Pacifica species except a few species.
