This book overviews current research status and activities, including the executive summary (Chapter I ), the new trends and achievements in research progress and perspectives (Chapter II) and ongoing projects (Chapter III ).Because that global change study is thought as a supper programme, which covers four important sister programmes: the IGBP, WCRP (World Climate Research Programme ), IHDP (International Human Dimensions Programme ) and DIVERSITAS, only 20 projects which are closely related to the IGBP and supported by Chinese government have been selected and outlined in the Chapter III of this book in addition to the projects mentioned in the Chapter II .
