Marine Permian rocks are widely spread and well developed in south China,
containing various kinds of fossils. Although fusulinids, corals and brachiopods
have been made largely known, so far as the cephalopods are concerned,
they were found at very few localities. Since the liberation of China,
extensive geological investigations have been carried out and numerous
cephalopods have been collected, putting the responsibility at us for
identification. The materials of Upper Permian cephalopods upon which
the present study is made came from more than 80 localities in 12 provinces
and autonomous regions of South China. Among these localities the writers
visited more than 20 sections to collect more cephalopods, particularly
ammonoids. It also should be mentioned that our study is of primary nature,
much detailed work is hoped.
