After a detailed investigation of domestic and international petroleum
geology and geochemistry on the genetic mechanism and occurrence of immature
hydrocarbons, the authors of this book have selected nine sedimentary
sags, as typical regions for systematic analysis and study. Meanwhile,
typical samples of immature oils and source rocks were collected from
five middle-small sized basins for corresponding detailed analysis.
This project in total deals with 102 wells and related surface outcrop
sections and coal mines. Altogether 33 crude oil and 563 source rock samples
are sampled. Twenty four items of organic geochemical, organic petrologic
and isotopic geochemical analyses were performed. A total 4187 analyses
were achieved and various abundant experimental data made available, based
on which, in this book, five kinds of early hydrocarbon generation mechanisms
from different source materials have been proposed. Also geological and
geochemical regularities of immature petroleum generation and its occurrence
in the world were tentatively summarized.
