Cassava plants expressing the hen egg-white lysozyme, a natural polyphenol oxidase inhibitor, show attenuated blue or brown streaking (symptoms of postharvest physiological deterioration) in storage roots. Reduced coumarin accumulation and increased tolerance to oxidative stress help the cassava avoid rapid decay after harvest.

The Arabidopsis U-box E3 ubiquitin ligases PUB22 and PUB23 downregulated 26S proteasome activity by promoting dissociation of the 19S regulatory particle from the holo-proteasome complex. Overall, PUB22/PUB23 play a critical role in arsenite-induced proteotoxic stress responses via negative regulation of 26S proteasome integrity.

An integrated examination of transcriptome, metabolome and DNA methylation data to explore the genetic and molecular basis of potato heterosis at three developmental stages showed that the initial establishment of heterosis in diploid potato was mainly due to dominant complementation.

An analysis that studied heterosis at a single-locus level in 13 near isogenic F1 hybrids and pyramided heterosis by producing F1 heterozygous at 8 heterosis loci indicated that dominance rather than overdominance contributes to heterosis in rice. Assembling heterosis by manipulating several major QTLs is a promising approach.

Examination of the crystal structure of N-terminal tandem B-box domains of CONSTANS (CO), the key player in photoperiod flowering pathway, reveals that B-Boxes of CO form a head-to-tail type linear oligomer, which mediates the multimeric assembly of CO to enhance the accurate targeting of CO to FLOWERING LOCUS T.

The chrysanthemum nuclear factor Y B-type subunit CmNF-YB8 regulates the expression of CmCIPK6 (encoding calcineurin B-like-interacting serine/threonine protein kinase 6) and CmSHN3 (encoding the ERF/AP2 transcription factor Shine3) to alter stomatal movement and cuticle thickness in the leaf epidermis, thereby affecting drought resistance.

Barley abnormal cytokinin response1 repressor 1 (are1) mutations induced via CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing improved grain yield, chlorophyll content, and nitrogen content in the shoot. The are1 mutants also showed delayed senescence and enhanced tolerance to low nitrogen conditions.
