The Chinese crab fauna described in this volume are mostly of tropical and subtropical nature. Of 212 species, those of the family Leucosiidae are most abundant, with 104 species making up almost one half of the total fauna; of the Dromiidae, 25 species; Dorippidae, 20 species; Calappidae, 18 species. The number of species decreases northward from the South China Sea to the Bohai Sea. The present volume deals with the sections Dromiacea, Archaeobrachyura, and Eubrachyura (Part) of the China Seas. Materials are based on collections made by the Institute of Oceanology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (Qingdao) since the 1950's. A total of 212 species belonging to 12 families and 81 genera, 15 species are recorded for the first time from Chinese waters, 7 species are new to science. All species are described and keys to all taxonomic categories are given
