This is the first memoir dealing specifically with the Mesozoic plants from northeastern Sichuan. The purpose of this book is to make a systematical study of the Late Triassic and Early to Middle Jurassic fossil plants from Daxian, Xuanhan, Kai Xian and Kaijiang (see Text-fig.), to discuss the geological ages of the plant-bearing formations and to make regional stratigraphical correlations.
171 species referred to 78 genera are here described, including 8 new species. The whole collection was made by some members of the 137th Coal Field Geological Team of Sichuan Coal Field Geological Company. During the years from 1975 to 1982, this team measured carefully three datum sections and collected a large number of fossil plants and animals bed by bed. At the end of 1982, a cooperative project was arranged between the 137th Team and the Nanjing Institute of Geology and Palaeontology, and they immediately began to compile this book.
