The book contains four parts. As the first part of this work, the authors checked all conodonts from the PTB sections of Meishan, Shangsi and Kashmir, and corrected those incorrectly identified. They also revised the conodont zones of the P-T transition (Beds 24e to 28 of Meishan section). In the second part of this work, using an approximate method (“reef representatives”), they determine the distribution area of reefs in the Permian and Triassic. In the third part, on the basis revision of all thalamid sponges from the Permian and Triassic at specific level and discussed their evolution. In the last part, they discussed the biotic (taxonomic) selection in the end-Permian mass extinction of marine invertebrate groups and terrestrial plants. On the basis of evidence from different disciplines, especially oxygen isotopic evolution of seawater, global sea-level changes, and biotic selection in the mass extinction, they discussed the possible cause of the end-Permian mass extinctions.
