To make geologic tours to Qinghai-Tibet Plateau is usually the common aspiration of experts, attending international geology or petroleum conferences in China. They have every reason to believe that the plateau is extremely perilous in high altitude and difficult of access with marvelous tourist attraction, the landscape is holy and illuminated by Buddhism brightness so as to purify one’s mind. But the all-important reason is the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau has become a geologic monument since the collision of the Indian plate with the Eurasian plate, it has turned to be a highland, towering into the clouds ever since the appearance of mankind in Quaternary Period. A series of great geologic events, such as the Baikal Lake split open in Siberia, the Tianshan Mountains reactivated in Middle Asia, the Fenwei Graben subsided in North China and so on, all resulted from the abrupt rise of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Firsthand experience in mystery searching is quite commendable. Moreover, the Tethsian tectonic zone is peculiarly rich in hydrocarbons resources, only that the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau remains unknown. It is a vast frontier of petroleum exploration over a long period time. Therefore, scholars of different schools and nationalities regard it as and ideal place for geological investigations.
