This monograph makes a biostratigraphical study based on extremely rich palaeontological and stratigraphical data, with the establishment of the Tertiary typical sequences in five principal sedimentary basins of different types; then it makes a correlation of the Tertiary in the 35 oil and gas-bearing basins with the five typical sequences mainly based on the study of biostratigraphy, and complemented with the comprehensive application of principles and methods of seismostratigraphy, magnetostratigraphy, event stratigraphy and isotopic chronology.
