This definition describes quite accurately in general terms the content of the book and suggests for it a more ubiquitous role in the late 1980s and 1990s as concern grows for the world’s diminishing architectural heritage. The vital contribution of architecture to individual cultures is now widely recognized, and not only argues for wxpanded coverage,but also accentuates the need for a classification of the book’s contents in which significant buildings of every culture may be accommodated. A start has been made on this and a framework has been devised for its further development along these lines in the future.
