Acupuncture and moxibustion and acupuncture anesthesia are traditional Chinese Medicine and medical art for treatment of diseases and are much valued by the medical circles of all countries of the world. The Ali-China Conference on Acupuncture and Moxibustion and Acupuncture Anesthesia was held in Beijing, from 1-5 June, 1979, with the participation of foreign scientists at the invitation of the Chinese Government. At the request of the Chinese Ministry of Public Health and other organizations concerned, over twenty well-known Chinese medical scientists and doctors formed a compiling group responsible for the selection, editing upon over 1,000 papers. The group is headed by
Prof. Zhang Xiangtong (H. T. Chang), well-known Chinese neurologist, Prof. Ji Zhongpu, President of the Academyof Traditional Chinese Medicine of China and Prof. Huang Jiasi , the late President of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. The book contains 119 papers in 4 parts: I. Research on the Mechanisms of Acupuncture, Moxibustion and Acupuncture Anesthesia; II. Research on Channel-Collaterals and Points; III. Clinical Research on Acupuncture and Moxibustion; IV. Clinical Research on Acupuncture Anesthesia. The present work is the first comprehensive and systematic treatment of acupuncture and moxibustion and acupuncture anesthesia since the founding of new China. Its publication will surely arouse the general interest and attention of the medical circles, the neurologists, the biophysicists, etc. of all countries in the world. It will provide them with rich materials for investigation. To the clinical doctors, it provides the scientific basis and rich experience for mastering acupuncture and moxibustion for therapy and acupuncture anesthesia for operations. The present work is also a reference book for general medical workers, researchers engaged in the study of the principles of acupuncture and moxibustion and acupuncture anesthesia, clinical scientists, and the students and faculty of colleges and institutions and general universities concerning physiology.
