This book is the first most authoritative and comprehensive academic book illustrating the flowers in the wilderness of China with both photographs and text. The book contains over 900 precious colour photographs of 748 highly ornamental wild flowers belonging to 300 genera and 80 families, taken on the spot by specialists of the Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences through more than 10 years of China's wild plant resources investigations and scientific expeditions. It is a monograph on the subject covering the most numerous species from the most diverse areas in China and having the high-quality pictures in colour, which gives a detailed overview of China's wild flowers resources.

 

It is published in a bilingual Chinese-English edition, providing a brief description of the morphological characters , flowering time, distribution and habitat of each flower in the book, sometimes also giving information on their uses. The families are arranged in the order of Engler's system, and the genera and species within each family are arranged in alphabetical order. Index to Chinese names and to Latin names of the plants are provided at the end of the book. It is a book of practical value for botanists and floriculturists engaged in the study of China's wild flowers, for artists and other professionals as well as general plant lovers. It is also an important source of information to be kept in libraries for the public
