A Gull Identification Handbook Revised Edition《鸥类识别手册》描绘的30种鸥涵盖了《中国鸟类野外手册》中鸥族的全部种类，其中□0种以上都在中国内地及香港地区，尤其中国北方及东部沿海有分布，可以满足国内观鸟者对鸥类辨识的需求。《鸥类识别手册》在翻译过程中根据《中国鸟类名录》v4.0和郑光美先生的《世界鸟类分类与分布名录》对中文名进行了校订。部分鸟种的中文名没有文献可供参考，则采用了译者们认为恰当的中文名。在分类方面，本翻译本与日文版保持了一致，然而鸥类中关于分类学方面的争议较多且不断有新的证据和观点发表，对分类有兴趣的读者应在阅读多方新文献基础上加以判断。《鸥类识别手册》中扉页、第□8页、第33页、第73页中以方括号标注的部分内容，请参考《鸥类识别手册》译者注部分。
