Intending to be an academic and practical guide to taxonomy of Chinese chelonans, the boo has been wrtten by ZHOU Ting and LI Pipeng concisely ,and illustrated with exquisite pictures. In the first part , the ancient Chinese's knowledge,origin and evolution, biological properties, species diversity,taxonomic terms and measuring methods of trutles were intruduced, Then ,as the main content,36 species of Chinese tuetles, including sea turtles, freshwater turtles and toroises(terrestaial turtles) were illustrates from taxonomy, type specimen information, morphological characters, habitat and life history ,farming and breeding status, and protected levels and population status.In the third part ,the hybirdization ,Chinese natural and artificial hybrids of turtles were reported. For the control of invastive turtles an conservation of Chinses turtles, 20 exotic turtles which are popular in wild ,markets or farms in China were introduced , and the Chinese turtle resources and conservation status were reviewed at last. More than 1000 beautiful pictures will help readers tounderstand the turtles deeply in a full range.Cited references, indexes of turtles in Chinese and scientific names will make the readers easily to check the turtles and the referred papers.

周婷，1966年生。江苏人。1989年以来长期从事龟鳖动物物种鉴定、驯养繁殖、疾病防治等工作。先后发表文章50余篇。编著出版《中国龟鳖图集》、《观赏龟的饲养与鉴赏》、《龟鳖分类图鉴》等9本书籍。 
李丕鹏，1963年生，陕西商县人。沈阳师范大学特聘教授、二级教授和两栖爬行动物研究所所长，中国科学院沈阳应用生态研究所博士生导师。荣获全国优秀教师和沈阳市劳动模范等称号。四川大学等四所大学兼职教授和广东惠东港口海龟国家级自然保护区管理局首席专家。自1983年开始研究龟鳖，主要从事两栖爬行动物生物学、保护和可持续利用研究。兼任中国动物学会理事暨两栖爬行动物学分会常务理事，中国野生动物保护协会养殖委员会副主任委员兼爬行动物专业委员会主任委员，世界自然保护联盟物种生存委员会委员，两栖动物专家组中国区联席主席，中国两栖爬行动物专家组主席，辽宁省动物学会理事长，辽宁省野生动物保护协会常务理事，全国野生动物保护管理与经营利用标准化技术委员会委员，国家林业局陆生野生动物资源调查专家技术委员会委员。受聘担任国家林业局野生动植物保护与自然保护区管理司动植物进出口行政论证许可评审两栖爬行动物专家及蛇类养殖试点技术监督专家、《重点保护野生动物名录调整》论证会两栖爬行动物组专家。《Asiatic Herpetological Research》、《Asian Herpetological Research》、《四川动物》和《野生动物学报》等刊物编委，《蛇志》编辑部顾问，《蛇蛙研究丛书》和《两栖爬行动物多样性专辑》主任编委。先后主持国家自然科学基金和省部级项目30余项，先后获得省、市青年科技奖，省级优秀教学成果一等奖、省高校实验技术成果三等奖、省科技进步三等奖和省高校科技进步一等奖、省自然科学学术成果一等奖等近20项。出版学术专著3部，发表论文180余篇，重要学术论文发表于《美国科学院院刊》、《中国科学》、《英国皇家学会会刊》和《美国生理学杂志》等。
