Introduction: This volume is composed of the following three parts: the 10 lectures delivered by the American participants, the 21 lectures and the 13 poster presentations given by the Chinese participants. Of these contributions 29 deals with parasitic and predatory natural enemies of insect pests, 13 with insect parhogenetic microbes and 2 with insect pheromones. They are the outcomes of basic research and the application of biological control in practice, such as its integration as a component of integrated pest management and the use of econ-ecological principle, evaluation of arthropod natural enemies, molecular biology of insect viruses, pathogenecity of insect bacterium, genetic improvement of insect predators, mathematical modeling of pest-natural enemy interactions, behavior of insect parasites and predators and their conservation, propagation and utilization in pest control, etc.
