The present book is a taxonomic study of the Chinese Cicadellidae (Homoptera). The following are some of the problems explored in the book.
Firstly, a discussion is given on the systematic status of leafhoppers. We think that it is suitable to treat leafhoppers as a superfamily, in which onluy a single family Cicadellidae is included, so that a good balance can be kept can be kept with other groups in Auchenorrhyncha.
Secondly, the phylogeny, taxonomic resume, economic importance, taxonomic characters and terminology are introduced and discussed. We agree with the opinion that Auchenorrhyncha has evolved from Cicadoidea to Cercopoidea and Membracoidea.
Furthermore, a primary study on the tribal classification of the subfamily Typhlocybinae is given. Dr.Dworakowska's system is accepted, by which the subfamily Typhlocybinae is divided into 6 tribes. But the author considers that the tribes Alebrini and Typhlocybini need to be further studied and subdivided.
